With a footprint of over 25,000 square meter, the Draper Tools building in North Baddesley is a large scale industrial warehouse, supplying quality trade, professional and DIY tools. The building has a span of over 210 metres, with multiple roof sections and numerous skylights, which need to be carefully considered as part of the solar system design to 1) ensure health and safety during the installation process and 2) to optimise solar energy generation.
Energy saving: The first-year annual production of the PV system is projected to be 512,000 kWh which will cover a significant proportion of the annual energy demand of the property.
Payback: 67% of the solar energy produced will be utilised onsite, shortening the payback period of the PV system to 4 years.
Project management: The project was managed by a dedicated project manager to ensure that no obstruction was caused to the day-to-day operations of the property and to the customers visiting the store.
We had big goals for the building’s environmental efficiency, and the successful installation of solar panels by Absolar has played a huge part in that. In just two short months after completion, the solar panels had already generated an impressive 73% of our site's energy needs, and to date we have reduced our carbon footprint by over 44 tonnes.
